Select Committee on Productivity in Australia
27 March 2026
ACCAN recently submitted to the Senate Select Committee on Productivity in Australia (the Select Committee).
ACCAN’s submission recommends the Select Committee consider:
Introducing retail price caps for NBN Co’s Entry Level Offer to ensure affordable fixed broadband for low-income and price sensitive households, supporting greater participation in employment, education and digital services.
Establishing an Independent Plan Comparison Tool to allow consumers to directly compare equivalent mobile and broadband plans across providers, improving consumer choice, strengthening competition, and lowering telecommunications costs.
Improving digital accessibility standards for telecommunications services to remove barriers for people with disability and support greater participation in employment, education, and the digital economy.
Recommending reforms to the Telecommunications Act 1997 (Cth) to formally recognise telecommunications as an essential service.
Continuing and expanding co-designed community Wi-Fi programs to support remote First Nations communities.
